Crewe will offer former Manchester United forward Eddie Johnson a trial at Gresty Road this summer with a view to a permanent deal.Johnson began his career with the Crewe Academy but left for Old Trafford, but he struggled to make a breakthrough at Old Trafford, making just one first team appearance against Leeds in the League Cup.

He spent the 2004/05 season on loan at Coventry and then spent the following year back at Gresty Road, scoring five goals in 23 appearances.

He elected to join Bradford after leaving United in 2006 but was released this summer and recently turned down a deal with his hometown side Chester.
