Anaheim Ducks defenseman Scott Niedermayer has delayed his retirement by committing to an extra season in the NHL.
The veteran former New Jersey Devils man is one of the most successful players of all time and is the only man to have won a Stanley Cup, Olympic gold, World Championship, World Cup, Memorial Cup and World Junior Championship.
"I had a great time last season after returning to the team," the 34-year-old Niedermayer said. "I'm excited about having another opportunity to win, and fully expect the team to be competing for another Stanley Cup next spring."
The 34-year-old originally planned to retire in 2007 after he led the Ducks to a fourth Stanley Cup triumph, winning the Conn Smythe Trophy for MVP in the process.
But he returned in the off-season and played 48 games last season, scoring eight goals and 17 assists
"It's no secret what Scotty has meant to the organization over the past three years," Anaheim general manager Brian Burke said.
"Needless to say, we are thrilled he's returning to play for the upcoming season."
Niedermayer joined the Ducks in 2005, has played 209 games for the club, scored 36 goals and registered 121 assists.
A five-time All-Star, he has 633 points in 1,101 career games.
