Brown sets sights on Campo deal

Mon 26 May, 04:00 PM

Hull boss Phil Brown is eager to recruit Bolton's Ivan Campo and is reportedly set to make him the highest-paid player in the club's history.Brown - who knows Campo from his time as assistant to Sam Allardyce at Bolton - has told his promoted side he will give his squad just a handful of games to prove they can compete in the top flight.

Brown said: "It's a decision I'll have to make after two or three games if they're not good enough, but they will be given an opportunity.

"You look at Reading and they survived with the players that got them promoted.

"There's a lot to be said for team spirit, togetherness, camaraderie and mentality."

The Tigers boss has drawn up a list of targets to strengthen his side and 34-year-old midfielder Campo is one of those on the list.

The former Real Madrid stalwart - who will not be offered a new deal at The Reebok - was on a reported £50,000 a week and Brown will have to come up with a smiliar figure to stop Campo from returning to Spain.

Campo's former club Mallorca are keen on a deal for the San Sebastian-born star, who has admitted teams in England and Spain are chasing his signature.
