Coppell stands firm on departures

Fri 25 Jul, 12:00 PM

Reading manager Steve Coppell has reiterated his desire to keep hold of his key players for the forthcoming Championship season. The Royals have sold striker Dave Kitson to Stoke for £5.5million but despite speculation linking the likes of Stephen Hunt and Nicky Shorey with moves away from the Madejski Stadium, Coppell insists he is in no rush to sell.

He told the club's official website: "Firstly, for anyone to go someone's got to make an offer and quite genuinely we haven't been inundated with them.

"I know that might disappoint players who are wanting to leave but our phone hasn't been ringing off.

"It might well do - all the Premier League teams are beginning to play games and beginning to assess their squads more fully.

"So we may get a late run but at the moment players have to accept that we pay them and I expect them to commit fully to us."
