Mosley delight at ruling

FIA president Max Mosley has expressed delight following his victory in a High Court case against the News of the World for violation of privacy.

The tabloid ran a story earlier this year accusing him of partaking in a 'Nazi-themed sex orgy' with five prostitutes.

Mosley, who always denied any Nazi connotations to the orgy, sought 'exemplary' damages for a breach of privacy and was awarded £60,000.

Mosley said he was pleased and hoped the media would abstain from reporting such incidents in the future.

"This judgment has nailed the Nazi lie upon which the News of the World sought to justify their disgraceful intrusion into my private life," he stated. "By law we are all entitled to have our privacy respected.

"The News of the World invaded my privacy, dreamt up the most offensive headline possible, and decided that I should not be contacted before publication to prevent me asking the court for the injunction I would have been entitled to.

"They and their lawyers have then conducted this case so as to cause maximum embarrassment in the hope that I would be discouraged from continuing.

"I needed a strong judgment to make it absolutely clear that what the News of the World did was wrong. Obtaining that in the full glare of the media has been extremely difficult but I am delighted that we have achieved what we set out to do.

"I hope my case will help deter newspapers in the UK from pursuing this type of invasive and salacious journalism. I have learnt first hand how devastating an invasion of privacy can be and how readily papers like the News of the World will destroy lives in the knowledge that few of their victims will dare sue them. I want to encourage a change in that practice.

"As I promised at the outset, the damages will go to the FIA Foundation to further their work for road safety and the environment.

"Finally, I would like to thank all those who have supported me during this difficult period."

  1. Those on this forum who continue to try and discredit Max further just remember: Let he is without sin cast the first stone: regadless of what that sin may have been! His family may have or may or may never come to terms with the terrible invasion of privacy which took place and destroyed the family's life. Families have overcome a lot worse!!

Well done Max, right or wrong regards what others think about the background to the case, the law is, in this case, the winner. I'm only sorry that the trash paper, NOTW, was not fined or penalised more. The courts should have taken a whole years profits! Regardless of if Max is a public figure or not, a persons private life is just that. There is no justification for invasion of privacy regardless who the person is or what rank in society they may hold.

  2. He has lied to and totally deceived his whole family for many years. Has anyone considered how many lies and how much deceitful dealing he has carried out as head of the FIA? Surely someone within the FIA, Grand Prix, or even Motor Sport world must realise that with this level of disgusting moral attitudes to his family, he cannot possibly be the right person to represent Motorsport globally? Yes he is entitled to a private life, but when you consider he spouted all that garbish about the 'lies and deceit from MaClaren and uncle Ron', he was not just two-faced, this was at a time when we didn't know about his depraved and to be honest SAD sexual deviances. Guess motorsport fans have little choice but to accept that all those countries that voted to keep him as head of FIA, feel that this behaviour is what they are happy with. 'Tis a sad day when the world (of motorsport) is controlled by a freakish dictator, with everyone running scared.

  3. I concur with david holliss, and add that the wealthy always come up smelling of roses. Just about every decent family man with children must be disgusted by Mosleys so called private life, he should be ashamed, but he is'nt, like father, like son! no shame.

  4. Nice to know that publishing ones sex life accross the tabloids carries a 60K reward! max should be proud of his obvious veratious sexual appetite despite his advancing years!
Personally I don't like max, or indeed his dad oswald, but we should respect the decision, and I think being a kinky old man in private is his own business

  5. Yeah! its about time The News of the World should shut shop and pay up. Max u heard me max, I am with you on this occasion. Cavorts with as many whores and loose single mums (baby mommas) as you can, there are many of them in UK. At least an orgy should make them stop having babies without fathers. HA ha ha ha bha. Long live MAx long Lived FIA, F1, F3, and F"

  6. What Max did is no different to what many of us do every week. A healthy sex life, no matter how unconventional, is a private matter for individuals, not the Sunday paper's...
