Following yesterdays 2009 programme, Pedro de la Rosa’s focus returned to the 2008 season today in Jerez.
Some systems issues during the morning resulted in the car stopping on track and an oil leak early afternoon necessitated an engine change.
Despite the limited track time available, de la Rosa and the test team were able to conduct a very positive test of a number of aerodynamic components.
The Spanish test driver ended the day fifth fastest of the ten runners with a best time of 1:19.850s, seven-tenths off the ultimate pace.
Regular McLaren race driver Heikki Kovalainen takes over the MP4-23 for the fourth and final day of testing tomorrow.

Well it looks like McLaren will be using that 'stolen' technology for the next ten years then. They must have been using it for the past 40 years. Is there anyway Ferrari could get it back? Or did they not have it in the first place?
j.p.brockhill... let's get this straight... hamilton's engine lasts TWO races, actually it WINS two races... and della rossa can't get through a day of racing needing an engine change... and ferrari uses inferior parts to implement through the back door?? strange, because it seems to me that mclaren is using that STOLEN technology ONLY on hamilton's car... maybe an inspection of his engine is past time???
i'd say so...
I just have the feeling that Ferrari is returning to the pre-schumi era. They won't win any driver's title for the next 21 years.
Loving seeing ferrari getting shafted....they got totally on my nerves during the shumacher era.
Great how fast mclaren are now there isnt some arse in the team implementing crappy ferrari parts onto the car through the back door.
Oh I see. In that case i'll join, thanks for the tip off.
I am amazed people aren't making more of the new McLaren asymmetrical car design first introduced at silverstone. It's as if the other teams just haven't calculated that it may well be responsible for at least a couple of tenths in conjunction with the new thicker Mobil oil McLaren have started using.
Expect other teams to follow suit soon I'm sure.
