Stephane Peterhansel saw his lead cut to one minute and 44 seconds after finishing sixth on stage four of the Central Europe Rally which travelled 580 kilometres from Debrecen to Veszprem.

Having won the third stage, South African Giniel de Villiers (VW) followed up by winning the first 62km special of the day. He was four seconds ahead of stable-mate Dieter Depping and 12 seconds ahead of Robby Gordon's Hummer.

Nasser Al Attiyah (BMW) won the 88km afternoon special in increasingly sandy conditions after a tussle with Carlos Sainz (VW).

But the veteran Spaniard took the stage by six seconds from Qatar's Al Attiyah with de Villiers third a further 83 seconds back.

The South African now climbs to second in the overall, moving ahead of Germany's Dieter Depping (2:01 behind Peterhansel) while Al Attiyah and Sainz are now within four minutes of the lead in fourth and fifth place respectively.

In the bikes, David Casteu saw his lead cut to 88 seconds over fellow KTM rider Jaroslav Katrinak after finishing fifth in both special stages.

Frenchman Cyril Despres won the first, 47 seconds ahead of Portugal's Ruben Faria while Katrinak won the second, 57 seconds ahead of Chilean Francisco Lopez who is third overall at 3:23.

In the trucks, having won both the day's specials, Dutchman Hans Stacey took his advantage in the general standings to over 16 minutes.

In the quads, Frenchman Hubert Deltrieu won both the special stages of the day to extend his lead to more than 30 minutes over his nearest rival.
