The fiancee of Wigan Athletic's Emile Heskey was robbed at knifepoint after two men smashed their way into the striker's home.
Heskey said the robbers had kicked down the front door of his house in Hale a week ago while he was training at his club.
They threatened his fiancee, Chantelle, with a knife before stealing jewellery and a BMW X5 car.
"I am very glad and relieved to report that my partner Chantelle was not hurt and my children were away from the house at the time of the incident," Heskey, who has played 45 times for England, said in a statement.
"Chantelle was obviously very upset and shaken by what happened and is still very, very distressed but we both just want to put the ordeal behind us and get back to normality."
Heskey is the latest well-known player to be targeted by thieves. Last December four men broke into England and Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard's home while he was away on match duty while his wife Alex Curran was in the house.
She was shaken but unharmed. That break-in occurred weeks after the home of Gerrard's teammate Dirk Kuyt was burgled.

When you are left in the house you called home, wondering when the next time a stranger will come in and take you things. Whe you do not sleep at night, do not want to be on your own in the house. When you face all the questions from the police, the insurance copmanies, the community around you, you relive the crime all over again. The footballer was not there His partner was.
Its really sad that these cowards target such people, striking when the poor wife is there alone, complete scum bags. How can they hold their heads up anywhere knowing how low and cowardly they are.
I hope they catch them, but i also know the punishment will be a joke.
I hope he and his wife just forget about these idiots
unfortunatly if the crooks are caught, as they only held a knive to an innocent helpless woman etc etc etc,the judge will give them a slap on the wrist.but god forbid they tried to tuck up an insurance company of a few quid...6 years...say no more
emile heskey is a top man, comments from karlbillo and nugent360 are typical of sad, twisted people, take a look at yourselves and think how am i like this!
Not very impressive
The less symphateics are idiots who have not been robbed before. I hope they experience this kind of robbery very soon
Heskey is a top bloke with agood family no scum bags should be allowed to get
away with what they did.
and by the way, although after the fact, he now has a dog which is capable of ripping any number of retarded crackridden scumbags to pieces should they have the balls to come again.
Not very sympathetic are you?
My brother was robbed in a similar fashion earlier this year and he and his wife are still utterly traumatised by the incident. My brother has worked his nuts off nonstop for 25 years and these a£seholes come in threaten to kill them both, steal irreplaceable stuff like wedding rings and f£ck off back under whatever scumbag stone they come from. Lazy tw£ts they need removing off the face of the earth.
if heskey would have been there the outcome would have been the same if they touched him he would have hit the floor just like when hes playing football big man goes down with the wind!!!
Hopefully they'll be caught as he'll have CCTV in his house. At least in the bedroom. Don't all footballers have that?
lol
Karl, you are a comedy genius.
Heskey should know all about daylight robbery with Liverpool having spent £11 million on his services. As a Leicester supporter, we were in turn robbed by Wolves to the tune of £5.5 Million by his rpelacement Ade Akinbiyi.
