Championship - Transfer Talk: Namesakes

Eurosport - Sun, 20 Jul 18:39:00 2008

It's funny how many footballers share their names of other famous people.

FOOTBALL 2007-2008 Scottish Premier League John Kennedy - 0

Of course there are players such as Robbie Williams, Paul McKenna and Michael Jackson, but no one wants to buy them at the moment so they don't concern us.

However, Norwich City will go toe-to-toe with SPL side Motherwell for the signature John Kennedy. That's Celtic defender John Kennedy, not the DJ, the composer or the former baseball player who all share the same name.

QPR boss Iain Dowie will raid the jacket pocket of one of the club's mega-rich owners to find the £1.75 million need to sign Ben Watson. That's Crystal Palace midfielder Ben Watson, not the Grays Athletic striker, the New England Patriots tight end or the rock journalist of the same name.

Kemy Agustien is in talks over a possible move to Birmingham City, according to his agent. That's AZ Alkmaar defender Kemy Agustien, surely the only one out there.

The 21-year-old has only spent one season with AZ, but has been told he is surplus to requirements by coach Louis van Gaal.

Reports suggest Birmingham are keen to secure Agustien on a one-year loan deal, and his agent confirmed they have held talks with the English club.

"It all looks pretty good," Wessel Weezenberg told De Telegraaf. "The negotiations will continue when Kemy has recovered from a light muscle injury next week."

Meanwhile, Sheffield United have accepted a £2m bid from Derby County for striker Rob Hulse and Premier League new boys Hull City haven't forgotten their roots as they eye up Wolves' Seyi Olifinjana.
