Falkirk are poised to bolster their squad ahead of next season by signing former Scotland winger Neil McCann from Hearts on a free transfer.McCann, 33, is due to reach the end of his Hearts contract at the end of the season.

He broke his leg against Celtic in August and has featured only twice since that blow after suffering an ankle injury, however he has been involved in coaching the Hearts reserves.

Falkirk manager John Hughes secured another former Scotland star, Jackie McNamara, earlier in the week, when the 34-year-old defender agreed a two-year contract with the Bairns.

Hughes told the Edinburgh Evening News: "It's fantastic for us to be getting a player of Neil McCann's quality and experience.

"I knew after speaking to him for two minutes that he will play a big part for us. He still has that twinkle in his eye and that enthusiasm."

Hughes added: "He'll sign a playing contract but I know he's into the coaching side and studying for badges so there will be opportunities for him in that area at Falkirk."

McCann, who began his career with Dundee, played for Rangers and Southampton between his two spells with Hearts and won 26 Scotland caps, the last of which came in a friendly against the United States in November 2005.
