Sahar missed Saturday's 2-2 draw with Bristol City after complaining of stomach pains on Friday.
The Israel international, who is on loan at Loftus Road from Chelsea, was taken to hospital and he has been forced to undergo an appendix operation.
Sahar is likely to be out of action for up to five weeks and Rangers boss John Gregory admitted it was a blow to lose the youngster.
"It's a blow, but his health is the most important thing,'' Gregory told the club's official website.
"He's got lots of matches and a great future ahead of him and I'm looking forward to welcoming him back on the training ground in the not too distant future."
