Steven Taylor says he would never consider leaving Newcastle - and hopes Michael Owen and Steve Harper will follow his lead and pen new deals. The Magpies tied Taylor down to a new contract last week and are now in talks Owen and Harper about extending their stays at St James' Park.
Taylor signed a new three-year deal at Tyneside and the England Under 21 international admitted he was relieved to put all the speculation about his future behind him.
"There is nothing worse playing last season and the season before worrying about my future and for that to be all over now is great for me," Taylor told Sky Sports News.
"People who know me know I wouldn't leave this club and the best thing that has happened is actually signing.
"I know there are a few other players now waiting for their contracts to be sorted and it is important that important players like Michael Owen and Steve Harper get theirs sorted out because we have a small squad.
"Our squad is small, but there is plenty of quality there.
"I would rather have a smaller squad with quality rather than a large squad with not so much quality so at the moment we will take what we have."
