Crespo shown door by Chelsea

Thu 03 Jul, 06:00 PM

Hernan Crespo's Chelsea nightmare is finally over after the Blues decided to release him upon the end of his contract at Stamford Bridge.Crespo had not actually played for Chelsea since the 2005/6 season after falling out of favour with Jose Mourinho.

The Argentinian spent the last two seasons on loan with Inter Milan, having played for city rivals AC in 2004/5.

Crespo was one of the first signings made by Claudio Ranieri after Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003, scoring 12 goals in his opening campaign.

However, after Mourinho's arrival he was shipped out to Milan, playing and scoring in the Champions League final defeat to Liverpool in Istanbul.

A Chelsea statement read: "We thank Hernan for his efforts in a Chelsea shirt, and wish him well in the future."

  4. oh my goodness, i'm so sad about crespo leaving the club altogether, i think he's a wonderful player, and gave chelsea fans such a good chance to see what he is like, it's a shasme he didn't settle here, but i wish him (as i'm sure all chelsea fans would) every inch of success for the remainder of his career. thanks for everything hernan, you're fantastic. xx
